State Wrestling Final Wrap UP

聽Katie Biscoglia of Raccoon River-Northwest and Riverside鈥檚 Molly Allen earned history-making victories as the girls state wrestling tournament wrapped up before a sellout crowd at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

聽聽 The two standouts became the first three-time state champions with the 91海角社区 running the sport. Allen also won a title when the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association ran the tournament in 2022.

聽聽 Biscoglia, a junior, rolled to a 16-2 technical fall over Keira Hessenius to claim the Class 2A title at 105 pounds. She won her first three matches at state with first-period pins and finishes the season 58-1.

聽聽 Allen needed only 61 seconds to roll up a 17-2 technical fall over Harlan鈥檚 Ellexis Stephens in the Class 1A finals at 125. She racked up two technical falls and a pin earlier in the tournament and never had to wrestle past the first period, a dominating finish to a 31-0 season.

Another featured match in the first two-class state tournament pitted former champions against each other and it ended suddenly when Lewis Central鈥檚 Mahri

Manz pinned Southeast Polk鈥檚 Skylar Slade for the Class 2A crown at 145. Slade had controlled the match before Manz make a quick move to put the Southeast Polk wrestler on her back and got the pin with 4 seconds left in the first period.

聽聽 Manz, a senior, was the single-class 145 champion a year ago and finishes the season 49-0. Slade won the title at 155 as a freshman two years ago and finished third last year after getting upset in the semifinals.

聽聽 Biscoglia鈥檚 romp to a second title helped RRNW win the team championship with 156 points. Teammate Calista Rodish was the runner-up at 130, Naomi Templeman finished third at 140 and RRNW had five other wrestlers place in the top seven.

聽聽 Ankeny got individual championships from Elyse Engebretson (125) and Hayden Bratland (140) in finishing a strong second with 143 points. Engebretson had reached the finals with an upset of returning champion Camille Schult of Waverly-Shell Rock earlier in the day.

聽聽 Cedar Falls was third with 132 points and was followed by Lewis Central with 111 陆 and Waverly-Shell Rock with 96 陆. Those three each crowned two individual champions.

聽聽 East Buchanan swept to the Class 1A title with 105 points and five wrestlers on the podium, including 170-pound champion Brooklyn Graham, who pinned three of her four state tourney opponents.

聽聽 Mount Vernon got a second title at 190 from Libby Dix and finished second in the team race with 94 points. Osage was third with 79 陆 points, Decorah had 74 and West Liberty made a late charge to get fifth with 65 陆.

聽聽 Other former champions to earn a second title were Reanah Utterback of Sigourney-Keota at 115 in 1A, Mackenzie Childers of Cedar Rapids Prairie at 130 in 2A, Colbie Tenborg of Saydel at 135 in 1A and Mackenize Arends of Nevada at 235 in 2A.
